Privacy Policy

Last Updated: December 2024

Hey there! Let’s talk privacy (in plain English)

Look, I get it – nobody loves reading privacy policies. But your privacy actually matters to me, and I want you to know exactly what happens with your information when you visit Dishura. So let me break it down in normal human language.

Information I Collect (And Why)

When you sign up for my newsletter:

  • Your email address (obviously – how else would I send you recipes?)
  • Your first name if you share it (so I can say “Hey Sarah” instead of “Hey email person”)
  • Sometimes your food preferences if you tell me (like “I hate mushrooms” – noted!)

When you visit my website:

  • Basic stuff like what pages you visit and how long you stay
  • Your general location (like “someone from Texas” not “someone at 123 Main Street”)
  • What device you’re using (helps me make sure the site works on phones)
  • How you found me (Google, social media, friend’s recommendation)

When you email me directly:

  • Whatever you choose to share in your emails
  • Your email address (so I can respond!)
  • Sometimes photos of your cooking attempts (which I love seeing!)

How I Use Your Information (The Good Stuff)

For newsletters: I send you plant-based recipes, meal plans, and nutrition tips. That’s it. No spam, no sales pitches for random products, no sharing your email with sketchy companies.

To improve the blog: If I see that everyone’s visiting my quinoa recipes, I’ll make more quinoa content. If my meal prep guides are popular, I’ll create more of those.

To respond to your questions: When you email asking why your chickpea curry turned out watery, I use that to improve my recipes and help other people avoid the same issue.

To send you free stuff: Sometimes I create meal plans, shopping lists, or guides that I think you’ll love. Your email lets me share those with you.

What I Don’t Do (Promise!)

  • I don’t sell your email to other companies
  • I don’t spam you with daily emails (ain’t nobody got time for that)
  • I don’t track your personal life or stalk your social media
  • I don’t share your personal stories without permission
  • I don’t send you ads for products I don’t actually use

Cookies and Tracking (The Technical Stuff)

I use basic cookies to:

  • Remember if you like spicy recipes (so I can show you more)
  • Keep track of popular content
  • Make sure the website loads properly for you
  • Understand how people use the site (anonymously)

I use Google Analytics to see general patterns (like “people really love the 15-minute meals section”), but I can’t see personal information about individual visitors.

Your Rights (What You Can Do)

Unsubscribe anytime: Every email has an unsubscribe link. Click it and you’re out – no questions asked, no hurt feelings.

Request your data: Email me at marcus@dishura.com and I’ll tell you what information I have about you.

Delete your data: Want everything removed? Just ask and I’ll delete it all within 30 days.

Correct mistakes: If I have your name wrong or outdated info, let me know and I’ll fix it.

Ask questions: Confused about anything? Email me directly and I’ll explain.

Third-Party Services I Use

Email Service (ConvertKit): Handles my newsletters with industry-standard security. They can’t use your email for anything except helping me send you content.

Website Hosting: My website is hosted securely with standard data protection measures.

Google Analytics: Helps me understand website traffic patterns (anonymously).

I only work with companies that take data protection seriously and don’t sell your information.

International Visitors (GDPR Compliance)

If you’re visiting from the EU, you have extra rights under GDPR:

  • I need your clear consent to send you emails (that’s why there’s a signup form, not automatic enrollment)
  • You can request all your data in a readable format
  • You can ask me to delete everything
  • You can complain to your local data protection authority if you think I’m handling your data wrong

Children’s Privacy

Dishura is designed for adults dealing with adult nutrition questions. I don’t intentionally collect information from anyone under 18. If you’re a parent and think your child has shared information with me, please email and I’ll delete it immediately.

Data Security

I take reasonable precautions to protect your information:

  • Secure hosting with encryption
  • Regular software updates
  • Limited access to personal data (basically just me)
  • No storage of payment information (I don’t sell anything currently)

That said, no internet system is 100% secure. I’ll always be transparent if any security issues arise.

Changes to This Policy

If I need to update this privacy policy, I’ll email you about any major changes and post the new version here with a clear “last updated” date. I won’t make changes that give me more access to your data without telling you first.
